Two Goodmans Axiom 301 Speakers Goodmans Industries Ltd. established in the 1930's and was a big part of loudspeaker advancement from the earliest days of high fidelity. Like most British speaker manufacturers Goodmans focus was on producing the ultimate fullrange driver and was amongst the leaders of its progression. In 1952 Goodman engineer Ted Jordan created the 'Goodmans Axiette', which is widely regarded, even today, as one of the finest single-cone, full range drivers of all time. As the frequency range of modern recordings expanded so did the technology of fullrange and point-source speakers, Goodmans was always at the forefront of this progression.The Axiom is a late 1950's era progression of Goodmans point-source driver. It is one of the most natural sounding fullrange drivers around, greatly esteemed by audiophiles and musicians alike. The speaker achieves close to fullrange response from a fully integrated twin cone driver without a tangible crossover. The Goodmans Axiom 301 was introduced in 1958 as the successor to the Axiom 150. It was a tremendous improvement upon and already great system. The HF was further extended and overall response is smoother throughout. The low to mid frequencies from 30Hz-5kHz are handled by the 12" cone and a mechanical crossover transfers the drive to a concentrically mount high frequency diaphragm. Both diaphragms are driven by a long aluminum coil suspended in a total flux of 185,000 Maxwells and are carefully terminated to prevent standing waves. While the Axiom 301's were developed and used for hi-fidelity reproduction applications, they were used in many vintage VOX guitar amplifiers during the 60's because of their outstanding sonic attribute. The Axiom 301's present a very coherent and natural sonic picture. Bass response, in the correct cabinet, is surprisingly deep. The midrange is astonishingly natural, with an accurate sonic portrayal akin to ESL designs. High frequency extends extraordinarily high for such a large driver. The Axiom 301 can be used by itself or supplemented with other drivers. Cones are in remarkable shape with no signs of abuse or deterioration. Cosmetically speakers are very clean with only minor signs of use.
