Amp Auction: VINTAGE AIRLINE TUBE GUITAR/BASS AMP VALCO/SUPRO/SILVERTONE 1485

VINTAGE AIRLINE TUBE GUITAR/BASS AMP VALCO/SUPRO/SILVERTONE 1485 Amp Auction Description: RARE Tube Airline 9171A head by Supro/Valcoa super rare 100 Watt amp with a killer tone and REVERB and TREMOLO!4 6L6 tubes deliver sizzling plexi-like overdrive and volume galore!delivers a great Rock, Blues, Surf or Alt Country tone! a monster in the studio!a USA MADE HANDWIRED all original except for Sovtek replacement tubes and # prong cord!AN INCREDIBLE ONE OF A KIND GUITAR AMP!!! Starting at only 99 cents with no reserve! This is an auction for a very rare and very clean and original Airline amplifer (HEAD ONLY) that was made for Montgomery Wards catalog sales by Valco (who is best known for National and Supro brands). These came on the scene in the late 60's at the very end of their long reign as one of America's best underdog guitar company. Yes, this is one of the last amplifier designs of theirs to be included in a mail order catalog (which came out in the '68 Montgomery Wards catalog)...and probably one of their last amp designs period! It is well known that Valco was absorbed into Kay around this time, and they fulfilled the orders they had and slowly phased out USA made items, including closed down all their factories in Chicago (with the old Valco factory and all the rest of them gone by the mid 70's) to move production overseas. But this is the last gasp of that sought after tone you'll find. It is as much of a classic tube guitar amp as any Fender, Gibson, or Marshall you'll find. And not only it is clean, but it has just been serviced and runs 100% with the added 3 prong power cord. Only minor wear on bottom edge of the tolex. This beauty is the killer high wattage model, the Airline equivalent to the Silvertone 1485. Its sound is very Jack White, as it is the same basic amp design. (I know, I have the 1485 with the six-ten Jensen cabinet as well!) These were sold as a powerful and versatile amplifier back in the day and had some really interesting and unusual features not found in most Supro's. Besides the fact that it is a 'fully loaded' amp with huge sounding reverb and lush tremolo, it comes with its own set of light up stage lights unlike any other amp you will see out there! It is really stunning onstage and quite useful to see the controls when the house lights are dimmed, a very cool feature. It has independent jacks to connect a footswitch for the reverb and trem, as well as a very smart 'reset' switch that controls a fuse breaker in case of a jolt of electricity coming into the amp that trips, thereby saving your tubes and important components! The amp also has two separate channels (each with a volume and tone) that allow for channel switching of sorts with a simple passive A/B box. You can set one up clean, the other cranked, and go back and forth without issue. Pretty cool...Like most models that Valco supplied to their catalog amp line back in the day, this Airline head is really a slight rebrand of the Reverb and Tremolo Valco chassis they had used for many of the other models (like the 1484/1485). If you look at the chassis, it is the same layout as most of the Valco amps of the day. This is sort of what Valco did in this era. Lots of different amp lines, all the same amp. It has a great sound for recording or playing out and getting a killer natural overdrive tone. These all handwired, American made Valco amps have become very sought after due to their awesome sound and overdrive quality. Plus even with the price going up they're a lot cheaper than your average Fender/Marshall amps from the same era. This style is pretty well regarded thanks to it being so close to the Silvertone 1485 design. The 1485 has become a holy grail among vintage amp collectors and players for good reason. Its true some of that mania has been driven by the Jack White/Jimmy Page talk in guitar magazines, but some of it is simply from playing one of these awesome amps. I bought this amp to use in a White Stripes tribute band and trust me, I would never sell this one if a 1485 with the six ten cab had not fallen in my lap! Side by side comparison does show them to be quite the same, in layout and sound (I do also have a separate Silvertone six ten cab with new Jensen Gold label speakers in it that I will be selling as well,. If the buyer of this head is interested I will discount it to you). Once the Silvertone branded 1485 amps became so hot and expensive in the vintage market these other branded Valco amps began following their lead.Cosmetically, this amp is very clean as I mentioned. It has a finger joined pine cabinet just Fender Tweed era amps made famous. You can see the dovetails on the corners just like in a Fender amp. They don't make 'em like that any more. The black cloth and cool black 'ostrich' tolex are in nice shape, as is the chrome control panel, oversized knobs and handle. It looks great! There are a couple of small tolex tears/nicks in places and some scratches on the chrome, but all in all it is quite clean. Take a look over the photos to get the best idea of what I mean. The lettering on the front chrome and control panel is all in very nice shape without any major loss. The lights all work great without issue. It is in nice and original condition. If you like great sounding, classic overdriven guitar then it is hard to say anything bad about this amp's tone. I mean, it has the perfect range of broken up and slightly crispy clean to gnarly greasy 'amp sounds like it is about to explode' tones in it that all of us guitar players dream about in a tube amp. Overall, the amp sounds great wide open to my ears. But it will also do crisp and bright clean and pushed clean tones that are very Deluxe like. Like if a Deluxe had more balls and bass. That is sort of the vibe of this amp! Because it has lovely huge reverb that sounds a lot like Gibson amp reverb, big and crashy and gainy...like a tidal wave coming down a giant stairwell. The tremolo does a nice slow warbly smooth repeat as well as a fast and choppy one. I own an original Jetsons model Airline guitar (pictured, but NOT FOR SALE!!!) and plugging it into this amp is about as good as it gets, next to the 1485 which I also have.Valco has a long and rich history of making many cool lines. The Supro brand began in 1935 as a line of guitars being made by National-Dobro, the famous line of resonator guitars and electric slides. The Supro brand followed its brother lines as the mother company Valco was born in 1936 as part of a move from California to Chicago. Valco's name was an amalgam of Valco's primary owners first names (Victor Smith, Al Frost, and Louis Dopyera), and with the move the company saw a shift from acoustic instruments to amplifiers and electric instruments. It was an organization that was on the cutting the edge, and its innovations of this time include the first archtop with no soundhole for fighting feedback, and first two pickup electric guitar, a six coil pickup, fiberglass guitars, and some of the most deluxe double and triple neck slide guitars ever produced. They embraced a very ornate, Art Deco and early Moderne look to many of their guitars, with beautiful ornate Egyptian influenced motifs for position markers and spare two tone streamline body designs that recall high end stylized furniture of the day. They were truly on the cusp of culture and taste through the 40's. By the late 50's and early 60's, Valco had grown to be an enormous manufacturer, and had several brands it was making and marketing itself, such as National and Supro, as well as ton of others being distributed under other brands like Airline (Montgomery Wards), Harmony, Oahu, Silvertone (Sears), Custom Kraft, Tonemaster, even Gretsch and many others. Many models were almost identical under different brands, often with a different logo, pickup configuration, or sometimes a different finish. They made a lot of excellent guitars in this period, and some of their most collectible designs now fetch big bucks as I mentioned. With their 'Res-o-glass' bodied guitars they were entering into a 'jet-age' and futuristic look and style that was also very high quality. They certainly recall the designs of concept cars of the day. Their pickup design is brilliant, actually, offering what is in my book some of the fattest, most toneful sound in any guitars from the 60's. If anyone has seen or played either Jack White's Airline, the Supro Thunderbolt, or the famous National 'Map' guitars, you know what I mean. This is a really rare find for someone who even has the most complete collection of Valco guitars and amps, or someone who wants a excellent sounding, super reliable amp.I will ship the amp anywhere as long as you are willing to pay exact shipping charges. I will not gouge you on shipping cost, what you pay will be exactly what it cost me to get it to you. Paypal only please, and no bidders with negative feedback issues pertaining to unpaid items. Thanks for looking and happy bidding :) On Oct-23-11 at 17:37:12 PDT, seller added the following information:***AMENDMENT *** I have learned since this listing began that the amp is really 2x40 watt amp and not a true 80 or 100 watter. It is basically 2 amps in one. Still similar to the Silvertone 1485 which is the same layout, 2 output transformers each driving 2 power tubes. This amp is essentially 2 Airline 9131-A amps in one just like the Silvertone 1485 is essentially 2 Silvertone 1484 amps in one. I just went with what I was always told... "4 power tubes like a Marshall equalls 100 watts". Its really all the same in the end since a properly matched cab is going to disperse the wattage evenly across the speakers anyway, but it technically is different. I hope I did not mislead anyone as that was not my intention. My guess though is that if you are looking at this amp you probably understand what it is :)

Amp Auction: ¬…¬…1994 MATCHLESS DC-30 SAMPSON ERA VINTAGE EL34 TUBE COMBO GUITAR AMP AMPLIFIER

¬…¬…1994 MATCHLESS DC-30 SAMPSON ERA VINTAGE EL34 TUBE COMBO GUITAR AMP AMPLIFIER Amp Auction Description: Untitled DocumentItem DetailsFor your consideration is this used 1994 Matchless D/C-30 2x12" combo electric guitar amplifier. This particular example, serial number M 2637, is in excellent 100% all original condition and includes the original Instruction Manual and IEC power cable. Kicking off what would become the boutique amp craze of the late 90's, Matchless is still revered today as one of the best due to their "no compromise" attitude. The most recent incarnation of the Matchless amp company sells a similar amplifier for over $3,600.00 new, but they sure don't make 'em like they used to during the Perrotta/Sampson golden era of the early 1990's. Ever since the release of the Matchless DC-30, boutique amp manufacturers have been struggling to achieve the same quality of performance, appearance, and build quality, but alas, the Matchless DC-30 is still the favorite, so don't miss out on this No Reserve auction with FREE SHIPPING anywhere in the U.S.A., and discounted WORLDWIDE shipping, as the highest bidder will win regardless of price!Serial Number: M 2637Transformer Codes: WTI 9458B, WTI 9355, WTI 9356Transformer Date Stamp: 11-7-94As briefly mentioned, this particular example is in 100% all original condition. It still has all of the original NOS tubes that were installed at the factory and even includes the original manual! Although the amp has been pampered and lightly used by the previous/original owner since being purchased new, it exhibits a small amount of white scuff marks along the bottom front edge. There are no substantial condition flaws on the exterior, nor are there any snags or rips in the grill cloth. Additionally, the amp works perfectly and sounds i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e. It is noise-free and quiet, studio-ready and brilliant. The DC-30 was the company's first design and remains the cornerstone of the entire Matchless amp line. Thirty very conservatively-rated watts from a quartet of EL-84's, through two channels, each with unique voicing and tone control layouts, produce a world of tone choices. True "Class A" configuration gives rich, complex harmonics whether played clean, mildly overdriven, or with all out power tube saturation. A long list of musician designed features includes; highly interactive tone controls and circuitries unique to each channel, bypassable master volume, individual channel effects loops, cut control for high frequency shaping, high and low (30 or 15 watt) power settings, selectable output impedance and phase inverter switches allow the use of additional speaker cabinets or amps in-phase with the DC-30. The preamp sections are based on a layout of two 12AX7's in Channel 1 and one EF86 in Channel 2. The two 12AX7's in Channel 1 create a parallel-triode circuit with interactive bass and treble. The one EF86 in Channel 2 consists of a high-gain pentode coupled to a six-position tone switch. Outright benefits include quick dial-in of new tones and an easy return to the settings you prefer. Also "high treble" cut control, master volume, with a bypass feature that offers flexible control of the power amp section. The power amp is fed by a 12AX7 phase inverter, which drives four EL84 power tubes. The rectifier circuit gives you the flexibility of using one 5AR4 for a quick attack or you can use two 5V4's for a smooth, round response. Other professional features include an effects loop, half power-mode switch (a conservative 30 watts switching to 15 watts), output impedance selector (4, 8, 16 ohms) and a speaker phase-reverse switch.Sound on the 212 Combo is delivered through two dissimilar Celestion speakers: a G12H30 and a Greenback 25, each specially modified through a proprietary MATCHLESS formula. All of this is encased in an extremely sturdy hand-made 11-ply, ¾" Baltic birch cabinet, wrapped in richly textured black vinyl. The finishing touch is a signature backlit nameplate and control panel, which lets you (and the audience) know when the power is on.Payment DetailsI accept Paypal, and I have my account arranged so that you can pay with all credit cards, as well as, fund the purchase directly through your bank account. If someone local is interested in this item, I can facilitate other types of secure payment. Please inquire. If you are unsatisfied with this amp for any reason, I will issue an immediate refund for the total purchase price within 14 days.Shipping DetailsDue to the amp weighing over 70 lbs, also to ensure a safe arrival, the speakers will be shipped separately.Since this item is both fragile and sensitive, I will double-box this amp professionally with all new packing materials. Insurance in the amount of the total sale will be included at no extra cost. Amp Auction: 1970 Silverface Fender Twin Reverb - Blackfaced W/Custom Mojo Period Cabinet!

1970 Silverface Fender Twin Reverb - Blackfaced W/Custom Mojo Period Cabinet! Amp Auction Description: For your Perusal, my creation. I am a 50 year old Frontman/Rhythm Guitar/Harmonica Player playing a very Eclectic Setlist. I started out on a mission to build what I thought would be my dream amp. I started out with a 1970 Fender Silverface Twin Reverb Chassis purchases from Risson Amplifiers in California. Look him up on Google, story is already too long. I then acquired a Mid '60's JBL D140F which Had reconed by my Amp Tech. My Amp Tech, Dean Zink, then went over the chassis and performed a Blackface Mod. He also replaced a Transformer that was shot. This somehow increased the wattage from the normal 85W to somewhere over 100W, neither of us are really sure. A Custom Period Cabinet was ordered from Mojo with a 15" Baffle for the JBL. All Tolex is stock Fender Black. The Grillcloth is White/Silver/Aqua. There are Fender OEM Tilt-Back Legs and all other hardware is Chrome and a Fender Reissue 2-Button Rev/Trem Footswitch was installed. There is also a OEM Fender Vinyl Travel Cover included. Mr. Risson also included an Acutronics Reverb Tank & Bag although I do not think it was the original. The Fender Badge has no Tail. Anyway, once all assembled, this thing absolutely Honked! Problem is it is too loud and too heavy for me (See previous 50 year old reference)! I have since acquired a Silverface Vibrolux Reverb and a Silverface Deluxe Reverb and as much as I hate to let it go, I would rather see someone Younger, Stronger and less Deaf get some enjoyment out of this. So, I will be adding pictures to this Auction over it's duration. This Amp is now stored in a Climate Controlled Storage Space. Prior to this it was stored in my Smoke-Free Home. It has only been gigged 3 times and only in Smoke-Free Clubs (Yes, Michigan has been smoke free for nearly three years). There are No Returns and the Item is purchased As Is. If Purchaed with Buy-It -Now, Shipping is Free. Insurance for Replacement Value is included in either Case. Payments are Preferred through PayPal and are in US Dollars. Payment is Due 3 days within Auctions Close. All Fifty United States and Canada are eligible to bid. Thank you for viewing my Auction and Good Luck Bidding! On Sep-30-11 at 17:06:00 PDT, seller added the following information:As Promised, here are pictures of the Fender Twin Reverb Amplifier.

Amp Auction: 1974 Fender Super Reverb Amplifier - silver face master volume

1974 Fender Super Reverb Amplifier - silver face master volume Amp Auction Description: 1974 Fender Super ReverbUp for bids is this wonderful 74 Fender Super Reverb. I've owned this amp approximately 9 years. It is in great condition for it's age. It sounds amazing. This amp is at least 35 years old, it is built like a tank and I've taken great care of it. The tube compliment is a pair of very nice GE gray plate 6L6GC's and a mix of Electro Harmonix and GT tubes in the preamp. All preamp tube shields included. The GE 6L6 tubes do not have "key" slots so you must be VERY careful installing these two tubes correctly. The bias was set in 2005 and the amp has had very little use over the last 5 years. It does still have the original filter caps so there is a bit of random pops and crackles occasionally , but once she warms up it seems to quiet down and just rock, just like any original Fender tube amp. The master volume pot gets scratchy but I usually leave it cranked so no worries there. It should probably get a cap job soon if you plan on touring or recording with it, otherwise just enjoy it like I did. Tolex is in really decent condition, see the photos, no rips or tears, just scuffs. Includes casters. Please send any questions I'll answer promptly.Power transformer code: L022798 CSA 827 606432Output: 022855 606436Reverb: 022855 606433Paypal only! Buyer to pay ALL shipping costs. This will be 80lbs+, shipped UPS ground. Sorry, no international bidders due to weight. If you are outside the USA, please contact me if you are a serious bidder and I can look into it for your particular country. I've bought and sold many vintage tube amps and it will be packed perfectly. Item sold AS-IS due to age. Thank you!

Amp Auction: Dr. Z Route 66

Dr. Z Route 66 Amp Auction Description: Up for auction is a Dr. Z Route 66 head in like new condition. This 2009 model was used sparingly in my smoke free home studio. I love the sound, but just do need the power. The tone controls let you dial in a variety of great gig ready tones. This 32 watt head is very touch sensitive. The amp has Gold Lion KT-66 power tubes, Dario EF-86 and Sovtek 12AX7LPS preamp tubes. Let me know if you have any questions. From the Dr. Z web site:Power Output 32 Watts Output Tubes 2 - KT66 Preamp Tubes 1 - EF86, 1-12AX7 Rectifier 1 - GZ34 Controls Volume, Treble, Bass Configurations Head Colors Black, Blonde, Red The Route 66 is an all original Dr. Z design based on the incredible KT-66 tube originally built by Genelex. This tube generates the "Milkshake Thick" tones, as heard on John Mayall's "Bluesbreaker" album featuring Eric Clapton (the "Beano Album" as it is known to many). This is not a duplicate of the Marshall JTM-45, but completely original spin with new tonal end results. The Route 66 has an EF-86 front-end. For those not familiar with this tube, it is a 9 pin pentode that offers incredible gain and input dynamics. It is normally used in high-end stereos, most often for its accurate transfer of input signal, balance, and headroom. The Route 66 features a deceptively simple tone stack, consisting of Volume, Bass, and Treble, which feeds a non-negative feedback Phase Inverter, for true harmonic content and full output tube dynamics. It has a GZ-34 Tube Rectifier to complete the round enveloped tone. The amp has piano-like clarity with endless sustain, even at low volumes. Its 32 watts truly sing when driven hard in a focused, thick distortion, with the tightest bass response you've ever heard.

Amp Auction: Peavey 5150 Amp Head Original Block Letter w Footswitch EVH Van Halen US Made NR

Peavey 5150 Amp Head Original Block Letter w Footswitch EVH Van Halen US Made NR Amp Auction Description: For sale is the classic Peavey 5150 120 Watt Amp -- this is the original block letter version, the first version. This amp began the "Brown Tone" craze with its 5 preamp and 4 power tubes which make this baby scream on either clean, crunchy, or full on insane distortion. Includes original Footswitch. Here are the amp specifications:120 watts (rms) into 16, 8, or 4 ohms (switchableFive 12AX7 preamp tubes and four 6L6GC power amp tubesHigh and low gain inputs2-channel preamp switchable on front panel or remote footswitchRhythm channel: pre-/post-gain, bright and crunch switchesLead channel: pre-/post-gainChannels share 3-band EQPresence and resonance controlsSwitchable post-EQ effects loopPreamp outputThis amp functions and sounds great and looks good cosmetically for a nearly 20 year old amp. A few tolex scuffs here and there, a few cracks in the plastic top vent but otherwise cosemtically very good. The only two things I do want to mention are that a) the plug has no ground post -- the reason for this is that the previous owner did not have 3 post outlets in his house and he removed it. It DOES NOT affect sound and if you flip the ground switch on the amp (+/ 0/-) any hum will immediately disappear. b) the volume pot is scratchy at very low levels. Once you get it past 1 it's absolutely fine. These are both very easy fixes that any good tech can do in a hour or less for very cheap. I'd fix them at my usual tech but he's always got a two week + wait to be seen.Shipping will be to the continental USA ONLY. Flat rate of $60 will include insurance. Non-negotiable unless you are picking it up locally.I have perfectly described this item and terms of sale in detail therefore there are no returns.Have a great day and thanks for looking!

Amp Auction: Orange Rockerverb 50 Guitar Amp Head

Orange Rockerverb 50 Guitar Amp Head Amp Auction Description: This head crushes...it came, it saw, it conquered and even melted faces! Great buy. i only used it for this studio project i was playing in. Nearly mint and im including the footswitch with it. Sad to let it go but it's on to other projects and other sounds. The clean tone is much better, being that it's the MKII, than the first breed of Rockerverb 50's. The reverb is improved as well. EL 34's bring serious gain to this head. The distortion is liquid. Really crushing. I couldn't have been more satisfied and every guitar player should hear orange crunch once in their lives!
